Freemasons from Grimsby’s Astral Lodge have given £750 to support the work of the Amethyst Unit, the town’s Diana Princes of Wales Hospital £4.4m haematology, oncology, and rheumatology unit. The donation was made by David Stapleton, the Lodge’s current master, to staff nurse Sophie Hill, watched by some of her colleagues.
Every year the Masonic Province of Lincolnshire gives about 150 similar sums to charities and good causes unrelated to Freemasonry throughout Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, and North East Lincolnshire – last year amounting to more than £100,000. The money comes from the Province’s New Provincial Benevolent Fund, which raises the cash through personal donations from Lincolnshire’s 3,400 Freemasons.
