The procedure for signing in to the QC meetings at Grand Lodge has changed, with effect from the September meeting.
Wardens, Past Masters, and Masters in Office need to sign in in the Vestibules as before – except that Lodge numbers will no longer be displayed. This time signing in will be by the individual member’s surname.
Jason Fitzgerald of St Hugh Lodge in Lincoln is a Scrutineer. He explained: “The method of registering that members were used to has become increasingly outdated, with many of the Installation Books out of date by at least a year or two.
“To address this, and hopefully to save time, UGLE is introducing a new process for the first time: registration boards will now be organised alphabetically by surname, rather than by lodge number. To sign in, members should go to the section that corresponds to the first letter of their surname. The signature sheets for the members will still be the same for them to sign in.
“Anyone who has not yet reached the position of Warden should go to Temple 10, shown above in our picture, where special arrangements have been made for them. To find Temple 10, come in through entrance on Great Queen Street rather than the big double doors at the corner. Go past reception and make your way up the stairs to the first floor. On the first floor landing there will be a sign for Temple 10, which is on the second floor. When you arrive there, you’ll meet a scriutineeer, which with any luck will be me,who will book you in and take you to the North Balcony, where there is reserved seating for the meeting.”
He added a reminder about dress code. “The only ties which may be worn are plan black or UGLE, and brethren should wear only the Tercentenary and Royal Arch Jewels,” he said.
