Lincolnshire Masonic Golf Association members won their first inter-Provincial match of the year by beating Derbyshire at Lincoln Golf Club, Torksey.
The teams were competing for the first time for the ‘Les Spencer & Mick Wright Trophy’, celebrating the connection of the two Provinces by their joint membership of Engineers Lodge in Derbyshire.
It’s named for Mick Wright, Secretary of the Lincolnshire Masonic Golfing Association whose mother lodge is Pharos in Scunthorpe, and Les Spencer from Derbyshire. Sadly, Les passed away towards the end of the Covid lockdown, having played for both Engineers Lodge and Derbyshire golf teams as well as being a past Captain of Chesterfield Golf Club and twice Master of Engineers Lodge.
The competition was played as an individual Stableford, where the best six scores from each team gave an accumulated score.
The 24 players who took part on the Friday could not have asked for a better day with wall-to-wall sunshine, a course in very good condition complemented by an excellent meal after the golf and a little banter and rivalry.
• In the picture Vice Chairman of the Lincolnshire Masonic Golf Association Eric King presents the trophy to the Lincolnshire Captain for the day, Steven Spavin. The winning score was 186 points to 178.
