Saturday’s torrential downpour and showers on Sunday reduced the numbers attending Masons&Motors ’23 at Doddington Hall – but those that did attend still had a great time and raised about £1,000 for the #Lincs2025 Festival.
Amongst the more ‘unexpected’ vehicles were a V8 off-roader driven by Rob Pursey, a Fordson tractor with Steve Siddle at the wheel, and a borrowed Aston Martin brought by PGM Dave Wheeler.
Dave said: “That wasn’t the car Liz and I were supposed to arrive in. The first was an Aston Martin DB6, which was lent to us by Mark Constant, PGM of Northants and Hunts.
”Unfortunately, there was a serious mechanical problem on the A1 near Grantham and the DB 6 had to be recovered. Brilliantly, Mark brought the DB 7 for us to use as a replacement. Words cannot convey the gratitude Liz and I felt for the spirit of friendship extended to us by Mark today.”
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight sent a Hawker Hurricane from its fleet to overfly the event.
Organiser Dave Gibson said he was pleased to have the event supported at Doddington Hall once again, and hoped numbers would be higher next year.
He said: “Many thanks for all of the support from those who attended. We had a total of 32 cars plus the Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bike Service. This was far better than I expected, given the weather conditions.
“We were very lucky to have escaped the vast majority of the showers. We were also fortunate to have the Hurricane flypast, with a video clip included in this post. The wasp at the beginning of the video made it a dual flypast…
“Special thank you to Lee Brelsford of St Lawrence Lodge who brought his tent for us to use, and for Tony O’Brien of Lindsey Lodge who came from Louth in his golden taxi to sell festival merchandise from his Brand of Brothers site at www.numonday.com/shop/brandofbrothers-store/
Masons and Motors 2024 is booked for July 21st at Doddington Hall.
