Round Britain Walker Chris Jones writes: Not a full nights sleep as a few storms blew through in the early hours… I thought I’d managed to get out if the wind by pitching the tent behind a bank of soil but when a storm hits, there’s no hiding… that said, I’m very impressed with the tent, it twists and flexes but always springs back to where it should be…
I clearly fell asleep when the rain stopped as I didn’t wake up until 8am. That’s 15 hours laying on my pit !!! when do we ever do that ?? I do a lot of stretching and twisting through the night to try and ease my aching legs and back and incredibly, when I get up in the morning, I feel totally refreshed. A bit stiff but that getting easier each day. Up, packed and away in 20 minutes and a few hours along the cliff tops. Back onto roads to box around a river and a gas storage facility and eventually to a cafe in Mappleton. A lovely big bowl of soup and a sausage butty sorted me out for the last 3 miles to Hornsea. Not far from the ramp up from the beach, 2 figures appear walking towards me, both carrying big army Bergen’s. A young couple walking the coast together in the other direction. A fellow ex squaddie but sadly Daniel was a gunner… sorry, Engineer/Artillery rivalry will never end and it’s all in good faith. Huge respect to Daniel McNeils walk around Britain and Charlotte who he met while in the walk. A strong team and raising money for SSAFA, a charity very close to my heart.
We wished each other luck, said goodbye and I walked up the ramp into Hornsea as it started pouring down… nothing else for it… pub.. a few pints, tea and a b’n’b to dry all my kit and get a shower…
