What do you call a group of three principal Lodge officers all called Simon? Could it be a ‘si-umverate’? It could, but the trio of members who find themselves answering that question have opted to be an informal ‘si-angle’.
They’re all members of Lumley Lodge in Skegness, where Simon Noden has been installed as Master for the second time, having first been through the Chair in 2019. The appointments give real meaning to the phrase ‘Simon says’, as his installation also put Simon Withnall into the Senior Warden’s chair and Simon Hay into the Junior Warden’s.
There was also a family connection as Tyler Noden was re-appointed as Lodge Membership Officer by his Dad, adding an extra layer of meaning to the lewis on the LMO’s collar.
Simon said his year in the chair would represent a ‘reset’ year for the Lodge, with succession plans in place to be implemented, and routes to ‘bring on’ newer brethren – and he also promised his year would focus on the three Fs of Freemasonry, Festival, and Fun.
More than 60 were present for the Installation, including six Grand Officers, as well as several of the Members’ Pathway Presentation Team, where Simon Noden also has a role as Assistant Provincial Membership Officer. As well as being Master, Simon is also the Lodge Mentor and Royal Arch rep.
The raffle on the night raised £370, which will be given to the fundraising challenge of Chris Jones, our round-Britain charity walker, who set out on his epic travels from the same centre more than a year ago, on New Year’s Day last year. Chris is currently at home recovering from an injury to his left heel, but is determined to get back on the road as soon as he can. In the meantime, he’s writing a book about his challenge and the reasons for it.
