David Bird and Keith Appleton plan to conquer Derbyshire’s White Peak Challenge to raise funds for our #Lincs2025 Festival. Meeting the challenge will see them not only walk 24 miles in under 12 hours, but also climb about three-quarters of a mile in the process.
David, Deputy Grand Superintendent in Lincolnshire’s Provincial Grand Chapter, said: “The challenge centres on the heart of the Peak District, passing through river valleys, gritstone moorland, limestone plateaux and dales. We start from the village centre in Monyash, and visits many areas of historical importance including Carlton Lees and Chatsworth, Stanton Moor, Youlgreave, Flagg, Bakewell, Taddington villages and The Monsal Trail.
“We’ll be doing it on July 10th, Covid restrictions permitting, as part of a group of 300 – and our places are already booked.”
Keith, our Provincial Grand Registrar, will be collecting sponsorships, but doesn’t want any money just yet. He said: “At this stage I’m happy to take pledges of sponsorship, and they will all be gratefully received and faithfully applied – but please don’t send cash or cheques just yet. I’ll send out payment details once we are certain the walk will go ahead.
“To make a pledge, please send me your Lodge number, donation amount, post code and house number, and let me know if you’d like to add gift aid. My email is astralsecretary@virginmedia.com. All pledges and generosity, however large or small, will be greatly appreciated and all donations will be recorded to the individual,” he added.
