If one picture’s worth a thousand words, then the efforts being made by the Province of Lincolnshire through its YouTube channel must be worth a whole library-full of words.
And in the latest batch of new programmes not only does Chris Watkin dare to ask Provincial Grand Master Dave Wheeler where Lincolnshire’s best ritual is to be found, but Dave also answers the question… What does he say? The only way to answer that question is to go to YouTube at this link…
But why video? What’s wrong with the tried and trusted ‘traditional’ means of communication? Says Provincial Communications Officer Stuart Pearcey: “Without wishing to overdo the golf analogy, a golfer has a number of clubs, each designed for a particular situation. Communication with our members is just the same; we have lots of tools at our disposal, and we need to pick the one that suits the member – or potential member – that we hope to reach.
“The latest technology allows communicators to do all sorts of things with ‘the moving image’, and if Freemasonry is to remain current and relevant we must recognise that and respond accordingly, whilst at the same time not losing sight of our traditions.”
What’s more, he says the use of video enables members to hear first-hand answers to questions individuals might never have the chance to ask, but yet still deserve answering. “Who knows; perhaps others would like to hear the answers to those self-same questions,” he says.
“Lincolnshire is blessed with our member Chris Watkin, who has the skills of a presenter backed up by the technology to produce broadcast standard interviews. The result is that professional feel to a clip, which adds credibility to what’s being said.
“I’d encourage anyone to see what we’ve uploaded.”
So what does the latest crop contain?
“Watching any of these will add to the enjoyment and understanding of Freemasonry, not just in Lincolnshire, but anywhere,” adds Stuart. “It only takes a few minutes to watch each of them…”
