Stuart Storey has proved that it’s never too late to join the Royal Arch by taking the step 49 years after becoming a Freemason.
The 78-year-old retired college lecturer was exalted as a member of Scunthorpe’s Chapter of St John having become a Freemason in Scotland, where he still has his membership of St John Lodge 795 under the Scottish Constitution.
These days he lives in Lincolnshire and is a member of both the Lodge of St John 7840 in Scunthorpe and Trent Valley Daylight Lodge in Crowle.
Deputy Grand Superintendent Mike Rix saw the ceremony during an official visit to the Chapter of St John, and said that Stuart’s exaltation was proof positive that there were no age limits when it came to joining the Royal Arch. He said: “We’ve always said that members should join the Royal Arch when it’s right for them, though it’s rare for there to be such a gap between joining one and joining the other! Stuart was welcomed to his new Companions in a fine exaltation ceremony.”
