What started as a wedding anniversary gift to themselves for one couple morphed into a multiple anniversary celebration for members of Skegness-based Lumley Lodge, underlining the strength of friendships formed in Freemasonry.
Simon Withnall and his wife Robyn started the ball rolling when they said they were going to cruise the Med, which prompted Jane and Neil Husskison to ask if they might come along to celebrate their 30th anniversary too – and then Simon and Joanne Noden, also 30 years married, added themselves to the party.
Said Jane: “Before we knew it we were a party of ten, had the most amazing holiday with fantastic friends. I’d always wanted to go on a cruise, go to Italy, and go to the Colosseum so when the Withnalls said they were going to all three for their 20th anniversary, we asked if we could join them too and celebrate our 30th anniversary.
“We have had such a laugh cruising the Med and spending time in Majorca together, even though we’ve certainly eaten and drunk plenty! The entertainment, staff, excursions and whole experience has been so good, we’ve all said this may have been a first cruise for most of us but it certainly won’t be the last.
As well as the Husskisons, Nodens, and Withnalls, the group included Garry and Michelle Smith and Alan and Lindsay Jarvis.
Said Simon Noden: “Alan had his Third degree on the Wednesday and the his feet didn’t touch the ground; on Saturday he headed off on flight to Palma to start the cruise around the Mediterranean. The social side of Freemasonry definitely extends to our wives, who had a great time. They encourage us to support each other’s journey together in the Lodge.”
