Grantham Freemasons said: “We’re open” and welcomed more than 100 people to tour their Faraday House HQ in the town’s Chambers Street during the local Heritage Open Days initiative.
Invited to tour the building guided by numerous volunteers, visitors were able to see the large function room, the lodge room in which ceremonies take place, and examine the contents of the museum, recording the 200-year history of Freemasonry in the town.
One visitor said: “This was the first time I”d been, and it’s a great-looking building. There was a wonderful warm reception on arrival. I loved the museum items, and could have spent hours talking to the people there. We were made to feel so welcome at every stage of the tour.”
Assistant Provincial Grand Master Peter Brooks, a member of Grantham’s oldest lodge, said: “The reaction of visitors to Faraday House has been heartwarming. Throwing open our doors to the public is the latest step on a journey to change the perception of Freemasonry and Freemasons in the eyes of the general public. It gives us the opportunity to show that we combine centuries of tradition with a modern relevance, preserving what lies at the centre of what we do – encouraging and supporting people to be the best possible version of themselves.”
